Veuve Clicquot 1999 Vintage Reserve Champagne
Veuve Clicquot Champagne Vintage 1999
An orange square right in the centre of an antique gold label acts an an homage to the VC house colour. Enhanced by an orange neck band, we’re good to go on the good ship Veuve.
Yep, a tear strip, hooray!
Capsule is a chocolate brown with the Madame settled on it, oh, VC, you’re setting us up nicely, we shall continue…
Aroma is well, biscuity, blossomy, a bit like, well, Champagne really..taste, is blackcurranty at the base wit a dry finish and some woody oakiness – it’s like sucking a lolly stick! The flavours are well-balanced and in tune with each other nicely, but all in all, there’s just not enough to grab hold of.
A bit too much grapefruit and zest reveals itself at the end and becomes a little cirtic..or ‘racy acidity’ as one taster said, all wide-eyed and we know exactly what they mean... - KT
Champagne Grape Blend:31% Chardonnay, 58% Pinot Noir, 11% Pinot Meunier
Features:Overall, we marked it down because, for a vintage, the bottle itself warranted a little more attention, for example, the 1998 and there was no royal warrant. Perhaps it requires more ageing? We are willing to revisit in oohh, say ten years time, watch this space.
"The choice of grape classification is of vital importance. The blend includes 20 crus only, which are either Grand or Premier Crus, from the Montagne de Reims, Grande Vallée de la Marne and Côte des Blanc areas." - Veuve Clicquot
