Marks and Spencer Oudinot Demi Sec Champagne

A regal-looking bottle greeted us for

this tasting, a classic gold neck, deep green ornamentation and a fancy script for ‘Oudinot’, not at all bad, and with a bit of masculinity about it.

We popped the cork, the capsule was a little disappointing, we had expected the gold and green, or the distinctive ‘Chateau Malakoff’ of previous bottles, however, we will try not to hold it against them. Ahh, here we are, a good, satisfying fizzing sound as the champagne was poured made all tasters feel a little more comfortable, and it lead to a lasting mousse that ably carried the flavours of this moreish champagne.

Do you remember those parties you went to as a child and you would round off tea with peaches and evaporated milk, well, those flavours burst forth from the glass. It is deliciously creamy with no hint of dryness, in fact, the only dry aspect was the dried papaya which emanates from your glass. It has a sweet, very clean finish, likened to exotic fruit juice like ‘Five Alive’ with a good raisiny burst. Oh, and banana.

Pale straw in colour, this delicately smooth champagne though not big on finish, scores highly for quaffability. - KT
