Charles Heidsieck Brut Reserve
Charles Heidsieck Champagne
Oh no! A Champagne we didn’t like! It was bound to happen eventually, so here’s our tale of woe…
It all started well, a nice, distinguished bottle with a lovely embossed pattern and decorative leaf motif on its neck seemed so hopeful. Though, in retrospect, we should have guessed this one would be a bit confused as, looking at it closer, you notice the unbalanced mix of masculine and feminine imagery…
Aroma, smokey and a bit floral, hmmm..a bit confused…
Let’s give it a whirl then, oh, ow, ow, OW! A dry middle note burst into a spiky, sharp sting at the end of a gulp. How did it do that?! We had to keep checking our flutes to check some swine hadn’t slipped a squirt of jif and a bit of lemon into it, so sharp was it to sip.
All in all, it got worse! It was, by consensus of opinion, a bit too severe, too citric and the bubbles didn’t let up either, they actually began to hurt!
Perhaps this is one to serve to complement food, we dare you to try it with pickled onions! And, of dear, lots of burping ensued, more than average from one person in particular… KT
