Alain des Arbres Carte Noire Champagne
Alain des Arbres Champagne
If ever there was a Champagne for Goths, then here it is. An austere black label graces this bottle and it wouldn’t lookout of place stowed in a black, spiky backpack on its way to toast Marilyn Manson... ahh, the beautiful people indeed!
But, eh? What’s this? There’s a pink capsule! Curious, as this aint no rose, maybe they just ran out of black ones? It’s fairly plain with just an enigmatic ‘Champagne France’ on it and the bottle is quite utilitarian, with a little bit of kudos added by having the name of ‘Weavers’ on it (Nottingham’s greatest fine wine suppliers).
Let’s get it open then... a pale Champagne flowed out with an almost imperceptible hint of pink to it, watch out though, it’s a frothy one!
Aromas of sweet fruits, a floral lightness and hint of raspberries hit us and was rather reminiscent of Asti.
So, we taste... quite densely packed with fruit: a nip of pineapple, a dash of lychee and a smattering of plum all combined to make a raisiny blend, almost like a Tio Peppe Sherry, "sweet red delicious apples" said one taster, "mango juice" said another, with all being unanimous that it is a light, not overpowering flavour and altogether moreish. Its finish isn’t a lingerer and it does leave you wanting more.
Overall, a delicate fruity/floral blend and if you imagine a nice white wine, think of it fizzy and you get the idea. - KT
