Nicolas Feuillatte Cuvée Palmes d'Or 1996 Champagne
Nicolas Feuillatte Vintage 1996 Champagne
Prepare yourself for a show-stopping, jaw-dropping, eye-popping piece of Champagne art here. What a bottle! As you steady yourself for a bit of a Champagne moment with this Faberge Egg of tipples, take a moment, well, more than just a moment to just admire this beautiful bottle.
It’s absolutely marvellous: behold its unusual shape and the amazing level of detail lavished thereupon..from the foil band with an embossed ‘Nicolas Feuillate’ splashed across it, to the legends on the bottle itself, lovingly worked onto bronze metal plaques instead of the usual paper labels. And not forgetting the bottle itself – it’s a dimpled pineapple!
Come on, get it popped! The sheer thickness of the foil band is rather lovely. It was well-thumbed by all tasters amid hushed and revered tones of ‘ooohh, feel that!” and it ably set the tone for the partaking of something special.
Ok, the capsule was a little on the minimalist side, when compared to the lavish splendour of the bottle and we will discreetly forgive them the disappointing cork with no vintage year on it, but only as the Champagne itself was so lovely..read on, dear friend and you will see why…
An aroma of fresh and floral pleasures floated up, it was reminiscent of sherbert, with hints of elderflower blossom and beckoned you to sip. Bam! Straight away, immediate depth, immersing you into robust nuttiness and earthy truffleness, bringing you towards a dry finish with a shot of lemony exuberance. A light mousse balanced the flavours and made all tasters go tingly.
My, it’s such a refreshing tipple and is worryingly easy drinking. This slips down very nicely indeed. Lemons! Lemons! Lemons ahoy!
On the second pour, our MD came over all unnecessary at the lovely glugging sound emanating from such a distinguished and weighty bottle. Much proud de Niro-esque face pulling went on as the majesty of this brew poured forth. Wow, even more lemony now, mingled with toasty nutty smoothness. It has quite a lyrical effect as now we come to input this review, one taster wrote: “It is like you feel after a thunderstorm: fresh, a bit electric and a feeling of being alive!” Hear hear. - KT
Champagne Grape Blend:50% Chardonnay, 50% Pinot Noir
Features:Though not a Hall of Famer as if there was another taste to match the lemons, it would be straight in there.
Vintage Year:"The vintage expresses the typical qualities and characteristics of the year. Composed of our oenologues favourite wines, this blend combines the excellence of a vintage. Only exceptional grape-harvests are judged to be worthy of its preparation. It contains no predominant aromas but time will be taken to discover the complex and subtle aromas which give it its character. This blend is above all finely balanced. The palate is velvety and melting, which makes it the guest for any exceptional moment." - Nicolas Feuillatte
