Paul Langier Brut Rosé Champagne
Paul Langier Rose - Pink Champagne
Where this bottle was acquired is consigned to the realms of mystery, for no one can remember exactly from where or when it was obtained. It remains, however, a popular choice, and a few tasters are already retracing their steps to see if they can remember where to get more from. If you come across this intriguing champagne, do look beyond the uninspiring exterior, it has a somewhat ‘high street’ look to it, we had to give it a through looking over to ensure it is not a supermarket own brand, so bland is its label, however as soon as you get beyond this, if you are a dessert lover, you will be very pleased indeed.
This deep pink champagne lets loose with a vibrant and plentiful mousse and the aroma is of an all too rare sensation: that of April violets.
The overriding taste is of cherries with a hint of strawberries, in fact, several tasters wrote ‘cherries’ on their tasting sheets and underlined it for emphasis. This abundant flavour develops into a cheesecake taste, and is as if it has a good helping of fraise soaked into its biscuit base. Subtle hints of banana and cassis round off this surprising champagne.
Too good to be true, you ask, well, yes. A little rough edge needs calming if this champagne is to become the stuff of hopes and dreams. It had a ‘homemade’ appeal, which if you like something crafty and a bit cheeky, than this is the one for you. - KT
