P Desroches Brut Champagne
P Desroches & Cie Champagne
Perfect for when you’re on the go, this half bottle of Champagne was begging to be tried. Oh go on then!
Nicely presented with a leaf design label, why oh why bung on the cursed plain silver capsule. It just says ‘Champagne’ on it, oh really? We feel another letter coming on…do they do it to save money or don’t they care about details?
Anyway…the cork: it’s tiny and narrow, did it age quicker because it’s a smaller bottle, perhaps that’s a ridiculous statement maybe someone can let us know?! The cork has ‘Molinas’ on the top and ‘Grand vin de Champagne’ on the bottom, at least it wasn’t left blank.
Hey, how dare it have such a lovely aroma? We were all set to be mean about it because of its rubbish capsule, that’ll teach us. It has elements of spice, cinnamon, nutmeg and a big dollop of molasses all rolled up to make you breathe in Christmas. We couldn’t wait to drink it.
Impressive. Not very fizzy, a tiny hint of sharp lime, though tempered by a rush of old brandy. It reminded us of Joseph Perrier Cuvee Josephine Champagne (mmmm...) though not as well rounded – if it was, we’d run to M&S right now and fill a trolley!
The Desroches had just a little too much diluted taste to it, though it hinted at big boned foundations. Curiously, with its strong start, it finished light.
It would be interesting to sample a full bottle to see how it develops once opened. We accept the challenge. - KT
