Champagne for All at Marks and Spencer Store Opening

The store opening was heralded with a champagne reception; we checked the quality of supplies.
If you were in West Bridgford, Nottingham, UK on Wednesday 11 January, you would have heard the unmistakable sound of corks popping, several hundred of them actually, as Marks and Spencer unveiled their new 'Simply Food' store with a grand opening ceremony.
The store opening was heralded with a champagne reception; so naturally, a Libation Unlimited representative was in undercover attendance, to check the quality of supplies. As regular readers will know, Marks and Spencer regularly score highly in Libation Unlimited tastings, so this particular job of off-site reportage was a pleasure to undertake.
The store opened at 10am, our taster arrived at the store at 1.40pm and found something of a party in full swing, a local radio station (Trent FM!) were engaging shoppers in competitions and jollities and then, right at the entrance, a rather charming young man was doing the honours with the champagne. Shoppers were greeted with a nicely chilled glass of the Oudinot Cuvee Brut, served in a plastic flute. It immediately struck a fine, biscuity note, with soft lemon undertones, a medium mousse and a fresh aroma. An excellent choice for M&S to present to their public.
A closer inspection of the champagne coffers in store beckoned and it seems, the locals are going to be spoilt for choice as a comprehensive range of champagne is on offer here.On the shelves you can browse through the Oudinot Cuvee Brut, the Medium Dry and the Rose, in addition to a P Desroches and a Henri Mirancourt, and for your lunchbox, there are quarter bottles of the Oudinot and the P Desroches. Ooh, there's more! A fridge, amply stocked with Oudinot Cuvee Brut, a St Gall Brut Premier Cru and a Vintage Oudinot 2001. Hats off to M&S!
Our reporter enquired as to how many bottles of champers the front of store team had gone through so far, this remained a mystery due to extreme busyness and new boxes arriving all the time, but the most important thing was, everyone was having a good time!
With comprehensive opening times and a friendly in-store team, this supermarket is well worth a visit to stock up on your M&S champagne. - KT
